Guidelines for Creating Custom Path Custom Tables
This section describes QAD’s preferred and recommended custom methodology.
To avoid difficult and challenging upgrades and patch installs, custom work should ideally reside in its own set of parallel tables that closely mimic the tables and logic that we are already using to populate our dim_ and fact_ tables. If a data path has been identified as existing from the same source as the requested custom column, and that path does not appear overly complex, it is a simple matter to create a series of tables that follow that path in parallel to get our data to its ideal destination, a view created from the existing dim or fact and the dimx or factx. Even under this methodology, there are exceptions to the rules.
