  • Network Sizing Considerations - Remote Client to BI Portal
The remote client issues requests to the BI Portal to retrieve data and subsequently processed data is transferred from the Portal server to the client machine. This type of usage exhibits a “spiky” network pattern where periods of data retrieval may require hundreds of kB/s transfer rates separated by periods of little network activity.
Because the network access pattern is “spiky,” specifying an “average bandwidth” requirement per user can be slightly misleading.
Reserve 100 kB/s bandwidth minimum per user, bearing in mind the caveats below.
Caveat 1 – Dashboard loading. The initial dashboard load may result in most network traffic when the dashboard data is returned from the server. This can result in brief periods of up to 300+ kB/s bandwidth demand.
Caveat 2 – Report Usage. Depending on the size of the reports and frequency at which reports are run, heavy report usage can result in increased bandwidth demand.
