  • Introduction to PEM
During the transit of parcel shipments from origin to destination, packages can be delayed, damaged, or lost in a carrier network. To manage the exceptions that occur when parcels do not arrive at their destination within prescribed carrier service levels, you need visibility of all shipments. The PEM Portal is a tool for managing these logistics exceptions and monitoring carrier network performance.
The key functions of PEM are to:
Allow you to proactively manage the exceptions for parcel shipments and resolve issues relating to parcel delivery.
Facilitate the management of carrier network and lane performance. Use PEM to identify areas where a carrier actual service level does not meet service level agreements (SLAs).
You can also use PEM to:
Support multiple carriers, regions, and time zones.
Provide supervision tools to Control Tower (CT) users, allowing them to escalate and proactively manage issues.
Prioritize workload within a CT team.
Map carrier-prescribed parcel-tracking statuses to a generic set of user-defined statuses.
Download and interpret electronic messages and load this data through the status-mapping engine.
Identify parcels that appear to be falling outside the defined SLAs.
Provide shipment visibility with appropriate permissions to multiple parties, including CTs, Call Centers (CCs), and Carrier Agents (CAs).
