Product Evolution

Since its inception, delivering world class solutions at the forefront of the market has been priority one for QAD. Utilizing the best technology, embracing open standards and focused solely on manufacturing, QAD solutions traditionally deliver the highest value to customers.

The history of QAD demonstrates a commitment to innovative product delivery, early adoption of leading technology, and providing high value support and services globally.

Founded in 1979, QAD entered a technology market characterized by proprietary system providers such as IBM (System 36, System 38) and DEC’s VAX platform. Indeed, QAD’s first product was delivered on the HP250 and sold until 1984 when open systems started to appear.

Open Systems, Early Adoption

Introduced to the HP 9000 platform featuring the Unix operating system, QAD quickly embraced the concept of open systems, adopting fourth generation language development tools for rapid development, and relational database technology (RDBMS) through a partnership with Progress Software.

The initial open systems MFG/PRO product was brought to market in 1986.

The early adoption of QAD applications can be attributed to several factors. First, MFG/PRO was on of the first systems to totally integrate manufacturing, distribution and finance. QAD further adopted APICS standards within the MRP solution, signaling a forward thinking commitment to industry best practices.

Early international acceptance of MFG/PRO drove a deep strategic commitment to “localization” support, in the form of multi-currency and multi-language functionality. The first international offices in The Netherlands and Hong Kong were established in 1990 and 1991.

Vertical Focus, Global Services, Extended Enterprise

Identifying six verticals, QAD launched initiatives to build, partner with, or acquire key assets designed to broaden and strengthen core and vertical-specific functionality. For example, to accommodate industry demand for regulatory compliance (FDA, EU) QAD introduced risk reduction tools in the form of expanded traceability functionality and extended quality management solutions.

Having built solutions that manage data and processes within a company’s four walls, the late 90’s found QAD focused on two significant strategies – developing collaboration technologies between customers, suppliers and trading partners, and expanding services globally.

A successful extended enterprise demands industry standard communication protocols. Working with industry trade groups such as AIAG, QAD introduced EDI solutions designed to drives cost down, increase accuracy and remove waste between supplier and customer, particularly in the automotive segment.

With the introduction of MFG/PRO eB, QAD brought lifecycle planning tools and closed loop manufacturing (MRP-II) technology to the user base, further underscoring commitment to best practices in manufacturing.

Recognizing that increased functionality, system sophistication and growing supply chain demands were driving challenges in education and training, QAD established multiple support and service centers worldwide. End to end services included expanded professional consulting, additional courseware offerings, and 24 hour support.

Innovation, Global Deployment

In the new century, QAD embarked on a mission designed to provide greater value to customers new and old, developing deeper vertical expertise, improving rapid deployment of global implementations, and incorporating innovative advancements across the widening spectrum of QAD solutions.

Addressing worldwide deployment challenges, QAD’s Domain Architecture was released in this same period. Enabling users to manage globally and execute locally, the Domain Architecture infrastructure enabled the maintenance of cohesive, integrated global implementations of QAD applications, while supporting data consolidation and regional localization.

The 21st century presents additional challenges for ERP solution providers – stringent corporate performance and governance standards, eco-friendly sustainability mandates, increasingly rapid time-to-market demands, lower costs, and increased efficiency across the entire supply chain.

QAD Enterprise Applications

QAD continues to respond to market challenges with the introduction of QAD Enterprise Applications, designed and engineered to enable progress towards the ultimate lean, just-in-time network, where communication and collaboration drive market efficiencies.

Leveraging the power of Microsoft’s .NET User Interface technology, access to data, reporting, dashboards, and documentation appear seamlessly where and when needed.

Global Services at QAD continues to keep pace by offering multiple avenues of education and implementation support. The web based Learning Portal offers online live and video based courses. Classroom training, web events and certification programs highlight additional educational opportunities. Professional consulting includes technical and application implementation support based on proven methodologies (Q-Advantage program), while support continues to be available 24/7 in multiple languages.
