Casino Era, Meet the “Disruption Era”

Did you know the first government-recognized gambling house was a wing in Venice’s Palazzo Dandolo, called Il Ridotto (“The Private Room”)? The Italian government-owned gambling house opened its doors in 1638, and while it was open to the public, the mercantile casino mostly attracted nobles and others who could afford to sit at the tables and play the games. Il Ridotto eventually closed its doors in 1774, but the Casino Era was already well underway.

Even as the Casino Era evolved over the years into more of a “Casino Culture”-eventually spreading to other countries and cultures, and later to the online community-much has changed since 15th-century Italy. Whether you find yourself playing a game of Telesina at the Casinò Municipale di Sanremo along the Italian Riviera, or Texas Hold’em at one of the 130 casinos in Vegas, there is something for everyone.

Like casino gambling, the world of manufacturing, too, has experienced its fair share of change. Today, disruption is sweeping the industry, and uncertainty is a lingering challenge for many manufacturers. Though if you play your cards right, it is possible to adapt to these changes, discover flexible solutions and innovate for the future.

How Can Manufacturers Better Address Industry Disruption?

A company’s propensity for strategic change can quickly become a crapshoot in the face of growing disruption, and “playing your cards too close to the vest” could lead you down the wrong path. Successfully navigating emerging business disruptors like Anything as a Service (XaaS), Make to Order at Scale and Digital Transformation doesn’t have to be the luck of the draw.

In order to keep pace with change and to use it for competitive advantage, it is important to identify solutions that work best for you and your business. So, why not hear about best practices from subject matter experts in your industry? Better yet, why not connect with other manufacturers facing very similar challenges?

What’s New this Year?

The focus of Explore 2020 is the ever increasing disruption global manufacturers are facing that is caused by technology driven innovation and changing consumer preferences. A manufacturer’s ability to adapt to change, innovate for competitive advantage and change business models quickly will serve as the key factors to surviving and thriving. We call these companies Adaptive Manufacturing Enterprises, and QAD can help chart your path to becoming one.
