Concerns around traceability and food safety, after all, very much remain in the post-pandemic era.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">QAD Director for the Consumer Products and Food and Beverage vertical markets Stephen Dombroski <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">describes the unprecedented disruptions transforming the marketplace, challenges the food and beverage industry is all too familiar with:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fluctuations in consumer preferences, such as plant-based options, healthier foods and locally sourced products<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Changes in dietary habits and growing allergen concerns<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A focus on sustainability and environmental issues in packaging and production<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supply chain weaknesses exposed and exacerbated by the pandemic<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add these challenges to ongoing compliance requirements, traceability, stringent food safety issues and the pressures on the industry continue to mount.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rsmus.com\/what-we-do\/industries\/consumer-products\/industry-outlook-consumer-products\/food-and-beverage.html\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">industry outlook article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from RSM consulting group, the authors look at how food and beverage companies are still reeling from the pandemic. Cost drivers that predate the pandemic will continue to add pressures. To attract and retain labor talent, manufacturers need to factor in not only wages but <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/documents\/data-sheets\/effective-on-boarding.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">effective onboarding<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and continual <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/streamline-onboarding-and-training-with-qads-guide-me\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">training<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Logistics costs from global supply chain weaknesses may be here to stay. A competitive landscape may keep companies from passing higher costs on to consumers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese issues and disruptions are forcing snack food and bakery manufacturers to rethink how they manage their business from both a process and system standpoint,\u201d Dombrowski points out.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Supply Chains in Food &amp; Beverage<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When talking about the supply chain, Dombrowski adds that \u201cmanufacturers need to speak about both supply chains: the physical and digital.\u201d We know that this means the physical supply chain that moves product, materials and supplies AND the digital supply chain that moves data and information.
