It is the ability of a company to ensure, through its processes, the efficiency and productivity of its organization for better profitability and greater customer satisfaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What is a Business Process?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A company can be represented as a network of flows (processes) that cross it to bring a product or a service (value) to its customers. These processes can occur at all parts of an organization and often start from the needs and expectations of customers and run through the company while respecting quality, cost and deadline objectives<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, there are many methodologies and tools have been developed to optimize processes in order to support companies growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>METHODOLOGIES TO IMPROVE BUSINESS PROCESSES<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Kaizen<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kaizen is the Japanese word for \u201cgood change\u201d (Kai = change, Zen = good) and describes the methodology of continuous improvement that is applied to business functions at all levels of an organization and its processes. This method aims to make small changes to the process every day. The constant search for solutions to the smallest problem makes change more accessible because it is done in small steps. More than a methodology, Kaizen has also become a state of mind in organizations using it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>The main Kaizen principles :<\/b><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constantly question yourself<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do not aim for perfection but for continuous improvement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify the original causes of problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solve problems without delay<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prioritize changes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Involve everyone in the change<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><b>Kaizen Advantage:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sudden changes can run up against problems of change management and some people may be reluctant to change. Small, repeated changes accompany profound changes over time and are more easily accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Lean Management<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lean management is a methodology that was formalized by American researchers at the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT). Lean Management\u201d is an English expression whose term \u201clean\u201d is evocative, it means \u201cfat free\u201d or \u201clean\u201d. The very principles of this methodology are to eradicate the unnecessary wastefulness and to focus on what brings value by applying the Muda, Mura, and Muri, the Japanese words referred to in the \u201c3Ms\u201d of the lean management model.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Muda, Mura, and Muri in lean manufacturing refer to:\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muda = Wastefulness. Muda refers to any activity that does not add value to the creation of the product or service for the customer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mura = Unevenness or Variation. Mura refers to inconsistencies in business operations; leading to fluctuations in production.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muri = Overburden. Muri is referred to as putting too much stress and strain on people and machines.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While reducing Muda (waste) is the goal of the lean manufacturing methodology, Mura (inconsistencies) and Muri (overburden) are important to identify as they often are the causes for unnecessary wastefulness in the processes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>3 Steps of Lean Manufacturing<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To apply 3M methodology, a business can review their processes and take the following steps:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The elimination of actions and activities in a process that do not bring value.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The elimination of unnecessary and counter-productive process variations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The elimination of excesses: everything that induces constraints or unreasonable efforts of the employees or even of the company\u2019s resources.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><b>Examples of lean management \u201cwaste\u201d to look for:\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Transport: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unnecessary transfer of products or materials from one location to another<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Inventory:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 All components, work in process, and finished product not being processed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motion:\u00a0 Excessive or unnecessary movement of a person or machine to perform the operation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Waiting:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Any act of waiting before performing the next step in the process<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Overproduction:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Producing beyond what is expected<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Over Processing:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Doing more than what is necessary to process a product or service<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Defects: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Products that do not meet quality standards and result to rework<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>The advantage of 3M lean methodology:\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reduces waste to increase performance and profitability on all dimensions of a company: time, material, money.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Six Sigma<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main objective of Six Sigma methodology is to deliver products or services that comply with the customer promise. Compliance will depend largely on the variability of the processes: once a process has been defined, the Six Sigma methodology ensures that the difference between the process operated and the target process does not exceed Six Sigma (or 6 times the standard deviation \u2013 Sigma in Greek).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, this methodology is applied to constantly measure the conformity of the processes operated in the field. The more homogeneous and similar they are, the more the customer promise will be respected and the product accepted by the final customer. It was originally applied in the industrial sector and then spread to all the company\u2019s processes: administrative, R&amp;D, sales, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Advantage of Six Sigma:\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the emphasis placed on the quality of the processes and therefore the quality of the products\/services delivered. Customer satisfaction is mostly achieved because the promise is delivered.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Lean Six Sigma<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lean Six Sigma has naturally imposed itself by combining the best of Kaizen and Lean Management methodologies: fighting waste and achieving a high level of quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DMAIC is the acronym used to identify the 5 Lean Six Sigma phases:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Define<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Measure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analyze<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improve<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Control<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In theory, there is no methodology specific to Lean Six Sigma, but the two are used in a complementary manner: you decide to rationalize your manufacturing processes by applying Lean, which will cause changes and difficulties in your processes. Variations will then appear: you will use Six Sigma to resolve these new variations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Lean Six Sigma Advantage:\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maximize the available resources (profitability) while delivering the customer promise (quality).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>KIND OF TOOLS FOR PROCESS MANAGEMENT<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to these methodologies, new digital tools have been added to the range of products available to further optimize process performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Process Mining<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Process mining only collects data from information logs to reconstruct in real time how processes are operated in the field. Reliable, based on facts, and dynamic, based on flows and time space, process mining gives a clear and visual vision of possible process anomalies (rework, bottlenecks&#8230;). AI and ML (link article AI\/ML) coupled with process mining will give valuable information on the optimization and automation of all or part of your processes. They will even allow you to project yourself into the future to better anticipate and make the right decisions today for tomorrow. It also allows you to clearly identify the objective and responsibilities of each person at each step of the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The advantage of these solutions is that they allow you to quickly visualize your flows, to clearly define the objectives and to align the different departments of your organization around your transversal business processes<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Business Process Management (BPM)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BPM is a way to define and map the different steps of a process, taking into account the interactions between people, information systems and other elements that have an impact on the process. A phase of interview, audit and understanding of the globality of the process to be modeled is essential to have an exhaustive view. In the case of BPM use, it is frequent that the process is fixed and that the passage from one stage to another is strictly regulated, as can be the case in the process of obtaining a bank loan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The interest of BPM is to be able to model and diagram (BPMN) all the flows and activities of the company. This global view is a first step towards the analysis and optimization of business processes. It is essential in certain sectors such as the banking sector in order to better manage its processes and prevent any anomaly or non-compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Intelligent Business Process Management (iBPM)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tools, as their name indicates, add a layer of intelligence to BPM tools.
