That\u2019s a given. I argue that while we do need to remain compliant with all of the rules and regulations in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/industries\/automotive\">automotive<\/a> industry, we should also strive for operational excellence. And they don\u2019t need to be mutually exclusive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IATF 16949 is an Opportunity for Change<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anytime there\u2019s a transition that affects the whole enterprise it becomes an opportunity to change some practices within the organization. Other examples include a change in leadership or the addition of a large new customer. In this case, given <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/qms-support-iatf-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IATF 16949 will affect the whole enterprise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this is a golden opportunity to shift the mindset away from quality as a department to the inherent quality in the day-to-day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the increased focus on management responsibility with IATF, this becomes a great time to get more buy-in from executives. Many successful manufacturers have a culture of quality and often this is driven by executive sponsors who understand the importance of quality in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/solutions\/manufacturing-erp\">manufacturing<\/a>. Now is the time to get the entire company on board with quality \u2014 backed by executives \u2014 and working toward operational excellence.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving Toward Operational Excellence \u2014 Everyone Needs to Be On Board<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When striving toward a lofty goal, such as operational excellence, it\u2019s critical to have everyone on board. So where do you begin? A great starting point for getting everyone involved is a software-based enterprise <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cebos.com\">quality management system<\/a>; these systems are generally used to gain involvement via actions and notifications. This will provide a focal point for the whole enterprise relating toward the organizational shift.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that we have a method to get everyone involved, what project do we start with? Choosing the starting point of a journey is often the most difficult part. You\u2019ll want something that affects the majority of the organization so that the solution can engage all employees. With the IATF changes, I think there\u2019s the perfect starting point: managing risk within the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking Risk Management to the Next Level<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/risk-based-thinking-improves-quality-automotive-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Risk identification and mitigation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a process that should be completed in all departments and\/or processes of the organization making it the perfect starting point to include the whole enterprise.
