That means it <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gets easier now, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not exactly. But in truth, it wasn\u2019t all bad. Challenging times often highlight the best in people. We found stories from around the globe of companies that rolled up their sleeves and found ways to support their communities in crisis. Some automotive manufacturers adapted their lines to manufacture ventilators. Beverage companies found a way to adjust their process for making alcoholic beverages and pivot to the manufacturing of hand sanitizer supply. Countless other companies (and individuals too!) developed a way to shift their manufacturing processes to fill the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) much needed by our front line workers around the world to protect against COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adapting Manufacturing Operations to Produce PPE<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re proud to say that many companies who stepped up to help their communities are QAD customers. So, let\u2019s take a look back at some of those amazing stories from 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amtico<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the early days of the pandemic, UK-based luxury flooring manufacturer <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/qad.wistia.com\/medias\/yt187sfdwr\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amtico<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> realized they could <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturing.net\/operations\/article\/21200564\/manufacturer-modifies-facilities-to-produce-face-shields\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support efforts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for local front line medical workers. In an overwhelming response to the pandemic, manufacturers and suppliers across multiple industries took it upon themselves to refocus their production efforts, oftentimes at no cost to hospitals and treatment centers.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mexican automotive component manufacturer <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mexiconewsdaily.com\/news\/coronavirus\/mexican-made-ventilator-ready-for-coronavirus-patients\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Metalsa collaborated with other Mexican-based manufacturers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to develop ventilator parts for the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jewelry designer <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/business\/20200403\/kendra-scott-crafting-masks-out-of-brands-bandanas-to-aid-in-coronavirus-fight\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kendra Scott worked with local communities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to sew and distribute masks to area hospitals and medical clinics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swedish automotive manufacturer of side-curtain airbags <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chathamdailynews.ca\/news\/local-news\/autoliv-shifts-production-to-medical-gown-material\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autoliv used their facility and machinery<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to produce material for hospital gowns.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australian beverage manufacturer <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.australianmanufacturing.com.au\/113520\/a-double-rum-but-not-as-we-know-it\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bickford\u2019s adapted their Beenleigh manufacturing facilities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to produce hand sanitizer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And now, as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/is-the-cold-chain-ready-for-covid-19-vaccine-delivery\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a vaccine is being rolled out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> around the world, we\u2019re excited to hear that <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bioworld.com\/articles\/501740-latin-america-awaits-covid-19-vaccine-race-in-the-region-is-on\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liomont SA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Mexico has been selected as one of the companies to produce the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. QAD Senior Vice President of Latin America Eugenio Riveroll spoke with Laboratorios Liomont Financial Director Manuel de Narvaez recently about the experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking Ahead<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we look forward to 2021 with hope and optimism, it\u2019s important to also remember the positives from last year. We witnessed resiliency and adaptability to the fullest extent. We saw people (and companies) seize the opportunity to do the right thing for their communities. These are values that QAD strives to uphold and we\u2019re proud to say that these are the characteristics of our customers too.
