Keep those seat belts tightly fastened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without going too far out on a limb, I\u2019ve assembled predictions for six areas sure to be hot topics in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/tag\/consumer-products\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consumer products<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/tag\/food-and-beverage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">food &amp; beverage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> industries. Even before the pandemic, online shopping for consumer products had been increasing year over year. In 2020, online shopping for food soared by 60%. This market will undoubtedly continue to grow.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Manufacturers&#8217; E-commerce Businesses:<\/strong> Similarly, manufacturers are joining the e-commerce trend, creating their own online sales platforms, and selling their products independently. They will need infrastructure, processes, flexible and adaptive enterprise systems, and a complete Sales and Operations Planning process.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>In-store Promotions:<\/strong> When enough consumers have been vaccinated and feel safe to shop in-person again, the retail industry will continue the trend from the past few years of offering in-store promotions. Manufacturers will need more robust <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/solutions\/connected-supply-chain\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supply chain management<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and inventory control to remain nimble.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Digital Transformation:<\/strong> The predictions of early 2020 regarding <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2020\/07\/rethinking-your-digital-transformation-strategy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">digital transformation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and advanced technology still hold true. Manufacturers need to embrace the IoT, smart automation, Industry 4.0, and 3D printing in ways that make sense for their businesses. They will survive with flexible, adaptive technology solutions and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">advanced digital systems combined with proven industry best practices, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2020\/01\/how-adaptive-erp-helps-create-competitive-advantage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">QAD Adaptive ERP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to stay ahead of the competition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Food &amp; Beverage Manufacturers\u2019 Investments in Technology:<\/strong> While food &amp; beverage manufacturers might not <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/qad-customers-find-success-advanced-technologies\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">adopt technologies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that do not impact operations as quickly as some, forward-thinking processors will continue to look into Direct Technology: equipment that is part of the manufacturing process (such as a mixer or shrink-wrap machine); plus Indirect Technology like software systems (<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/what-is-erp\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ERP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.dys.com\/powerful-demand-driven-supply-chain\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demand and Supply Chain Planning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2019\/04\/metrics-that-matter-quality-management\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quality<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, etc.). Agility and efficiency remain critical to the bottom line.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Sustainability and New Agricultural Practices:<\/strong> It\u2019s one of the hottest topics<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the manufacturing spectrum. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/manufacturing-erp-plays-key-role-for-sustainability\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sustainability requires new initiatives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and in food &amp; beverage this could mean combining<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> regenerative agriculture and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qad.com\/blog\/2018\/12\/precision-agriculture-revolutionized-farming-method\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">precision agriculture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to provide a long-term solution by combining environmental and farm science with technology. Both systems require new technology, such as GPS services, guidance systems, mapping tools and variable rate technologies (VRT) to optimize crop yields.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No doubt we\u2019re hoping for far less disruption and a return to normal in all facets of daily life.
