Any columns in new custom tables that are not going to end up being joined to existing dim_ or fact_ tables as part of a view or similar methodology can forgo any prefixing of the column names. The table that they are in, however, should be properly prefixed with an xx as explained in Custom Columns Joined to Standard Module.
