BI Deployment Options
Business Intelligence involves several different components and processes. Before determining a final sizing estimate, size the components and processes separately and appropriately, depending on the deployment option. There are two primary deployment options available:
• Single tier. All BI components on one server
• Two tier. The QAD BI Portal Server on a separate physical/virtual server to all other BI components
Using this breakdown of BI technical components allows you to size appropriately for either a single-tier or two-tier deployment.
Deployment Option 1 – Single Tier
A single-tier BI deployment has all BI components on the same server. See

Deployment Option 2 – Two Tier
The two-tier BI deployment has the BI Portal webapp on a separate server from all other BI components. The deployment option is illustrated in the following figure.
Note: The BI Portal has a much smaller resource requirement demand than the other BI components, so the size of a BI Portal server is smaller than the BI DWD/Scheduler server. This distinction is made throughout this document.
