• Bandwidth. This is a measure of the data transfer rate, measured in “bits” per second (bps) or “kilo-bits” per second (Kbps) or “Bytes” per second (Bps) and so on. Each physical network connection between two points has a maximum bandwidth rating, which cannot be exceeded.

• Latency. This is a measure of the “time delay” of transferring data from one point on a network to another point on the network. It is usually measures in milliseconds (ms) or seconds (s).

• WAN (Wide Area Network). A network where there is a large distance (or latency) between computers on the network. This is in contrast to a LAN (Local Area Network) where there all machines on the network are “local” in the sense that there is minimal latency between the network points.
