To provide blanket coverage for an end user regardless of the item they possess, set Blanket to Yes and add a contract line with a blank item number. This kind of blanket contract is intended to provide general coverage for all items the user possesses. When a global blanket contract is defined, you cannot specify a serial or reference number, and the PM item field is set to No and cannot be changed.

To create this kind of blanket contract, you add line items to the contract detailing the item numbers that are covered. Normally, you would not specify a serial number, even if the item is serial number controlled. The system allows the Serial field to be blank only when Blanket is set to Yes on the contract header. Now, when this end user reports a problem with one of these items, the blanket coverage will be found, unless a different contract for a specific item is found.
