Allocations reserve inventory for shipment on open MOs. General allocations reserve only the quantity needed at a particular site. Detail allocations set aside specific quantities by location, lot/serial, or reference number. Allocations give you control over what orders get shipped and when. Inventory can be allocated in several MO functions.

MO Automatic Allocations can be executed regularly to perform general allocations for any orders due within a certain number of days. This function can be used to allocate for MOs beyond the allocation limit specified in the control during order entry.

MO Manual Allocations can be used to override general or detailed allocations.

Manual and automatic allocations for MOs are exactly the same as for sales orders, except that the value for Allocate Days into Future is read from the MO control rather than the Sales Order Control.
