Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, is a global leader in aluminum and copper. Headquartered in Mumbai, India, the company operates a fully integrated value chain that spans bauxite mining, alumina refining, coal mining, power generation, smelting, rolling, extrusion and foils. With operations across India and a footprint in nine countries, Hindalco ranks among the world’s top aluminum producers.
Hindalco recently established a new manufacturing unit in Pune focused on producing aluminum battery enclosures and other specialized components. As part of this journey, Hindalco turned to QAD, whose experience in automotive manufacturing made it a natural partner to support the company’s new operations.
The Challenge:
The Pune facility needed to meet the demanding requirements of automotive customers, including strict expectations for scheduling, traceability and inventory accuracy. This represented a shift from Hindalco’s other business units and brought new operational challenges.
To be successful in the automotive sector, Hindalco needed a solution purpose-built for automotive – one that could support just-in-time manufacturing, provide end-to-end visibility and work effectively alongside its broader enterprise solutions.
QAD was chosen for the same.

About the Partner:
Digitus is a QAD reseller and implementation partner headquartered in Bengaluru, India. Digitus brings deep knowledge of enterprise systems, integration and digital transformation, with strong capabilities in ERP, EDI, barcode data collection and analytics.
The Digitus team supported Hindalco during the implementation of QAD Adaptive ERP at the Pune facility, working alongside Hindalco’s internal teams.
The Solution:
Hindalco deployed QAD Adaptive ERP at the Pune facility using a phased approach designed to support both immediate plant-level needs and alignment with corporate systems.
QAD was well suited to Hindalco’s requirements, offering capabilities designed to support automotive manufacturing like multi time invoicing for a single product and customer in a day and track-and-trace.
The Benefits:
Within a very short period, the Pune plant scaled production to a remarkably new level. This rapid growth required a system capable of supporting just-in-time delivery, rigorous process discipline and high levels of traceability.
QAD Adaptive ERP provided Hindalco with reliable track-and-trace capabilities, supporting QR code-based material movements and customer-specific invoicing requirements.
At the same time, QAD reduced Hindalco’s reliance on multiple platforms and manual workarounds. The solution was configured so that during any kind of maintenance window of the primary ERP also the operations will continue through QAD. The Boomi integration in batch mode, meanwhile, ensured Hindalco has a single source of truth for production, backed by enterprise-level visibility through its corporate ERP platform.
“The success of this implementation is not just about going live on a new system — it’s about how we aligned our processes, people, and technology to unlock real business value,” concluded Kundu.
