The Challenge:

STANDARDIZING SHIPPING AND OPERATIONAL PROCESSES

With an aftermarket freight spend of over $1 billion per annum across all modes, the manufacturer was seeking a solution for the transportation of small and bulky spare parts to their dealership network.

The company’s parts shipping process differs across their central and regional warehouses, but generally requires manual input into carrier-specific systems. Preparation of export shipment documentation was done through a mixture of site-specific tools (usually off-line) and the use of third party agencies.

The manufacturer wanted a solution to streamline operational processes, connect to a global carrier network, implement a uniform shipping process and increase the visibility in the supply chain. Project goals included:

  • Better control of transportation costs through freight spend visibility and network control
  • Enhanced post dock shipment visibility
  • Improved transportation KPI management with better analytics
  • Standardized shipping operations – irrespective of site/carrier modality

“Leveraging QAD GTTE, a leading manufacturer of heavy duty on-highway and off-highway vehicles, saved up to 25% on total carrier shipping costs.”

The Solution:

CENTRALIZED SYSTEM FOR GLOBAL TRADE AND SHIPPING

  • QAD Transportation Execution: Global multi-carrier network (>5,000+ carrier services integrated). Automated zone skipping for speed and cost reduction.
  • QAD Delivery Exception Management: Exception-based tracking for all post-dock shipments enabling full visibility and monitoring for proactive management.
  • QAD Global Trade Compliance: Automated shipment documentation production, and the solution’s ability to create a uniform shipping process flow, eliminate customs delays.

QAD Transportation Execution, Delivery Exception Management and Global Trade Compliance are implemented in a private cloud environment and integrated with the company’s existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Warehouse Management System (WMS) solutions.

QAD GTTE is currently deployed in one large distribution center in Europe. The solution is to be rolled out across more than 30 locations in the future.

The Benefits:

SIMPLIFIED SHIPPING AND EFFICIENCY GAINS

Results with QAD GTTE include:

  • Cost savings on total carrier shipping costs between 10-25%
  • Reduced lead times by zone skipping best route selection
  • Increased visibility across all post-dock shipments
  • Improved visibility of all shipment data
  • Improved customer service by proactive delivery exception management
  • Automated carrier, country and service-level offerings
  • Centralized and scalable system for continued growth
  • Improved shipment routing through least-cost carrier
  • Allowed for future enhancements to the system

The manufacturer was able to automate and simplify the shipping process. This includes the automatic production of export and shipping documents in compliance with both customers and regulatory demands. With one system for transportation, global trade and multi carrier shipping, integrated with their ERP and WMS, the company was able to automate time-consuming and labor-intensive manually processes.

With QAD GTTE , the manufacturer gained access to a global carrier network and can now leverage a single solution across all carrier modes. Using the QAD GTTE workflow-enabled routing guides and the manufacturer’s own business rules, the company was able to ensure that each parcel is sent at the correct service level, thus giving the company greater control over shipping spend.

Furthermore, with QAD GTTE, the company gained greater post-dock visibility with a centralized portal for the tracking of all shipments, with all carriers, across all modes.

With the roll-out of QAD GTTE to 30+ locations, the company will be able to leverage these benefits globally and standardize shipping across their enterprise.
