WAN Considerations
Latency is an unavoidable consequence of WANs.
On WANs, latency has the effect of:
Extending the data transfer times from the ERP system to the BI database system
Increasing the average client response times above the expected response times for LAN (Local Area Network) based client-server communication
Latency results in a decreased network transfer rate, extending communication time, and decreasing bandwidth requirements, at the cost of overall responsiveness.
