WAN Considerations
Latency is an unavoidable consequence of WANs.
On WANs, latency has the effect of:
• Extending the data transfer times from the ERP system to the BI database system
• Increasing the average client response times above the expected response times for LAN (Local Area Network) based client-server communication
Latency results in a decreased network transfer rate, extending communication time, and decreasing bandwidth requirements, at the cost of overall responsiveness.
