The charge code entry is a suggestion supplied by the system based on a number of factors. If the work code is marked as fixed price, the Fixed Billable charge code set up with Default Charge Code Maintenance displays.

If this is not a fixed repair, the under- or over-limit charge code associated with the coverage limits of the contract or service type in effect is used. The one suggested depends on the extended price of the operation and, for contracts only, the amount already applied against the limit. If charge codes are not associated with the limits, one of the charge codes set up in Default Charge Code Maintenance (11.21.21.13) displays, depending on the source of coverage (contract, warranty, or call default service type) and whether the current operation is over or under limit.

You can override the displayed value with some restrictions, but cannot change between a non-fixed and fixed repair charge code. The charge code specified is used to determine the charge product line. The product line in turn, determines the GL accounts affected by this service activity.
