SPINDEX ADOPTS A WINNING ERP STRATEGY TO WIN MORE ORDERS IN A COMPETITIVE MARKET

Headquartered in Singapore, Spindex operates five production facilities across Malaysia, Vietnam and China. It employs more than 1,600 people and operates over 1,000 CNC machines, delivering end-to-end precision-machined components from concept design and manufacturing to full assembly services.

Spindex is a trusted partner of multinational corporations (MNCs) across the automotive, power tools, consumer appliances, telecommunications, machinery, printing and data storage industries. A customer-centric culture and commitment to continuous improvement have enabled Spindex to achieve and maintain rapid growth in an industry that’s changing quickly. The Challenge:

PUSH TO WIN ORDERS IN A COMPETITIVE MARKET PROMPTS SPINDEX TO RETHINK ITS ERP STRATEGY

Spindex faced a challenge that’s top of mind for many manufacturers: how to win more orders in an increasingly competitive market. The company was able to gain and maintain a competitive advantage by taking a technology-driven approach to manufacturing that involved leveraging QAD ERP on-premise and a third-party cloud host to increase efficiency, optimize production and maintain a reputation for quality.

However, as the market became more competitive, Spindex recognized a need to take its ERP strategy to the next level. While the third-party cloud host provided a degree of cloud-based flexibility and scalability across Spindex’ operational footprint, it required separate IT management for infrastructure, security and system maintenance. As a result, Spindex grappled with increased IT overhead, downtime and other inefficiencies.

To win more orders and improve its market position, Spindex began looking for an alternative solution that would improve system reliability and provide the highest level of data security possible. The ideal solution also needed to be scalable to support Spindex’ dynamic operational footprint in Malaysia, China and Vietnam, as well as future plans for growth.

“QAD’s specialized knowledge and understanding of our industry challenges allow us to leverage QAD’s solution in a way that truly enhances our operations. This solution helps us stay competitive with market demands.”

The Solution:

SPINDEX MOVES TO QAD CLOUD ERP TO REDUCE DOWNTIME AND DRIVE EFFICIENCY AND SCALABILITY

Spindex has relied on QAD ERP to effectively support growth for more than two decades, making QAD the ideal partner to support the next stage of the company’s development. Leadership decided to move from QAD ERP on-premise and the third-party cloud host to QAD Cloud ERP and completed the migration in 2022.

“QAD has consistently provided us with a flexible, scalable system that aligns with our growing business needs,” explained Cida Tang, IT Manager at Spindex Industries Limited. “By moving to QAD Cloud ERP, we have ensured greater data security, improved collaboration across our global teams and positioned ourselves for future growth with a scalable ERP platform.”

The shift enabled Spindex to streamline operations, minimize disruption and improve system reliability, all of which are essential for delivering quality products on time and securing new business. The solution has also allowed Spindex to accelerate its new product introduction (NPI) cycles, positioning the company to respond to dynamic market conditions with ease and make the most of new opportunities.

“Especially in the face of shorter NPI cycles, QAD’s real-time data and advanced planning modules allow us to efficiently manage our production schedule, easily monitor inventory levels, and quickly adapt to new product requirements,” continued Tang.

These capabilities also make it easier for Spindex to anticipate customer needs, allocate resources effectively and improve time-to-market, making the company a more competitive option when bidding for new projects, shared Tang. “With the forecasting tools, we can quickly assess production capacity, streamline workforce planning, and scale our resources to meet new demands.”

The Benefits:

WITH QAD CLOUD ERP, SPINDEX GAINS STABILITY, SECURITY AND AGILITY TO ENABLE GLOBAL GROWTH

“Since we moved to QAD Cloud ERP, we have seen a significant improvement in system and data security,” said Tang. “The QAD Cloud solution offers enhanced protection through advanced encryption, regular security updates and backups, ensuring our sensitive business data remains secure.” Spindex has also tested QAD’s disaster recovery system, which Tang found to be extremely fast and reliable.

Spindex selected QAD Cloud ERP in part because leadership was confident it would deliver increased security and stability, but the byproduct of that is a more reliable software ecosystem that reduces downtime and operational disruption. Downtime is now virtually non-existent, whereas it used to be a weekly problem for the company.

The solution has also helped Spindex improve order management and quality control, explained Tang. “The system enables us to measure our orders more effectively, track product quality in real time and ensure timely delivery.” With real-time data visibility at its back, Spindex can now anticipate potential bottlenecks before they occur and ensure orders are fulfilled on schedule, further enhancing its ability to maintain strong relationships with customers and secure new business.

“We have used QAD for many years, so we trust that QAD is our choice,” continued Tang. As a customer-centric organization, strong relationships are important to Spindex and leadership values its partnership with QAD’s Customer Success team. QAD uses the Industrial Transformation Platform to take customers from where they are today toward where they need to go, and part of that process involved bringing in QAD Customer Success and the team’s deep industry expertise to help Spindex take full advantage of the QAD Cloud ERP solution.

“We have a very good relationship, especially in understanding our specific needs and ensuring that we fully leverage the competitive advantages of QAD’s system,” said Tang. “QAD’s specialized knowledge and understanding of our industry challenges allow us to leverage QAD’s solution in a way that truly enhances our operations. This solution helps us stay competitive with market demands.”

Looking toward the future, Spindex sees QAD Cloud ERP as a key component of its growth and innovation strategy. “I think the next step for Spindex with QAD will be to focus on further optimizing our ERP system to support Spindex in expanding global operations,” concluded Tang.

“By moving to QAD Cloud ERP, we have ensured greater data security, improved collaboration across our global teams and positioned ourselves for future growth with a scalable ERP platform.”
