QR Codes - Tracking Shipment Delivery
Post Date: 1/1/18 (Bronze, 2 Posts) Recent PostsI understand that QAD has the ability to generate QR Codes. Is there a way to use a QR code so that when the customer receives the shipment, they can use their smartphone by either taking a picture or scanning the QR code which will then transmit information (e.g. delivery time, location of package, etc.) back to the QAD system for tracking purposes?

Are you looking for a function like "Shipper Confirmation"? The confirmation of the Shipper number (could be QR code or real number) will confirm the transaction that goods have arrived at the customer, right? Although I have not send QR codes via mobile devices I have seen this functionality. Not sure if it was standard or a customization.

You could do this but where would you store the data? Once you have shipped the goods (ISS-SO) and printed the invoice the SO is gone. So I would assume you would need a custom table to hold this information. Also how would you read the data coming in from the Customer?

I agree with Phill and also did I not mention that there may be financial consequences related to this procedure. For instance: "who is the owner" of the goods once they are on transport (in which GL are they stored). Example: you can make an "in transit" location in QAD and on arrival of the goods on customer site, report an "issue sales order". In this case the goods stay in "manufacturer" books until reported delivered at the "door" of the customer. This will also have considerations for Invoice aging, especially if you have long transport lines. However, I do believe that this is a the way of working in Germany. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions.

Post Date: 1/4/18 (Bronze, 2 Posts) Recent PostsThanks gentlemen! Your insight, questions and suggestions were helpful. The original idea was to use the QR codes in helping to pinpoint actual on-time date delivery per customer requirement. In the mean-time, I have determined to go another route using other technology. Thank you again.
