It is actually held as a local variable. Basically it is only used if you define the same part down multiple lines and then one would be set to YES and all the others would be NO.
There is an article you can find on the KB called AB-05244 which explains this

BTW, Just noticed that you are using 18.1.1
Most people now use 18.22.1.1 it is actually the same program but as you are probably using advanced repetative you should always look under 18.22 first
