Can someone please help me with trimming white spaces using a reporting feature in our outdated MFG? Maybe a general solutions is available, but I have no idea.

I have a report of which I can direct the output among others to excel. In this report I have the field ad_mstr.ad_name. This is a character-field of 28 positions.

When I choose to export to excel, all data comes to excel as desired, however, the trailer white spaces also come in the excel cell and that is unwanted.

I try to replace the database field by a calculated field (last image), but I have to define the format. Howver, the exact length is variable, so I would like to put something like "x(?)", but than I get an error.
