HAS ANYONE USED STANDARD QAD TO ALLOCATE BY ITEM?

Post Date: 7/6/15 (Bronze, 15 Posts) Recent Posts

We have demand of a product (item) that is in excess of inventory (continuous scenario).  Would like to be able to auto allocate at the part level, not at the global sales order control file level.  Has anyone had any creative experience with this scenario? (I know sounds funky..)

Check Sales order Control file (7.1.24); "Allocate Sales Order Lines Due in Days:..". It will allocate sales order lines due in the days you specify. For more help press F1 (= help) in the field. The help is quite good.

I would suggest that you set the S/O control file to not allocate and then use 7.1.7. If you know the part numbers or if possible the range of parts you could even set it up as a batch process or multiple batch processes and then set up a cron to run them automatically at pre-determined times

Hey - thanks y'all....we have actually addressed the issue by creating a location with a status code that is avail=no; net=y; overissue=y. This is a scare, serialized item and we only want to allocate that item to specific customers, but not have them picked up in the auto-allocate process. By doing this, we have been able to run auto-allocate for other parts on the order, then manually allocate those parts that are scarce on an as approved basis. This is working during our testing.

Good solution, this is the way it should be solved. Sorry I misread your question, I answered how to globally allocate the good.

You don't need to manually allocate this part. As you have a separate location set the location as a "Reserved Location" and tell it which customer can use it. That way, as soon as you put the inventory in that location it will only be picked by the specified customers. Using this method you can actually have the same part in another location that can still be used by other customers if required. Also for the specified customers it will pick from the reserved location first.

Hi All,
I've tested "Allocate Sales Order Lines Due in Days" field many times, but I still don't understand how this field affect.
I created a sales order on May 9, due date = May 11, qty allocated = 10. "Allocate Sales Order Lines Due in Days" was set to 3. As far as I understand, system will only allocate inventory to order line within 3 days. Therefore, I reviewed that order three days later (May 14), but qty allocated was still 10. I just thought it must change to zero.

Could you please explain me more or give me an example.
Greatly appreciate your help.

Chi. The system is working correctly. Allocation means to reserve inventory. So when you created the order it was within the three day window, so it automatically allocated the order. It does not deallocate if the order is late. Basically when you got to May 14 the order was actually late. The three days you entered in the field works in a few places. For example when you create a Sales Order and the due date is within the window. If the due date was outside the window then it would not have allocated and then you would need to run 7.1.6 or 7 to allocate the order. What it means is ANY order that is past due OR due within the next three days. If you wanted the order de-allocated you would need to use 7.1.6 and say yes to deallocate
