A Collegue of our Customer Support Department want's to delete some old Articles out  MFG90. It is done in Menu 1.4.1 Artikel maintenance

She sent a messsage, that she cannot succeed.

Whe she try's she'll get th message, which say's: 'Warning. deleting not prohibited, open commodity/control 85167100'

Does anyone know what this means and what do do to solve this?

symptom: 1.4.1 errors on delete with tag exists message

fact: CA464825

fact: ppptmt.p

fact: mfg/pro all versions

fact: 1.4.1 Item Master Maintenance

fact: Deleting an item

fact: deletion disallowed because inventory tag for item exists

symptom: Warning message tag exists for part

fix: 1.4.1 Item Master Maintenance (ppptmt.p) checks various files for the existence of item records so that only truly unused parts are deleted. User must ensure that corrective action is taken for each message encountered.

fix: Use 4.23 Tag Delete/Archive (pitdup.p) to remove the tag and rerun the item deletion 1.4.1 Item Master Maintenance (ppptmt.p)

Dear Michael,

Many thanks for your reply about this topic. For your undersanding: I am a beginner with MFG pro.

I have run 4.23, but I do not understand the proces then. Via menu 1.4.1 you can delete the old Article, but that does not succeed because of that warning. As far as i can see, menu 4.23 Tag Delete/Archive removes the tag.. I understand, correct me if I am wrong, that this menu only shows a report of the archive? You cannot delete anything here? Could you tel me, in steps how to succeed?

Thanks for your reply.

You cannot delete an item if "something" is still related to the item.
So in your case the item seems to be attached to a "tag". If this "tag" is deleted (with menu 4.23 depending on your version) than you should be able to delete the item. Does this answer your question?

Dear Raymond,

Many thanks for you reply. We have an old version running: Version 9.0
Ik have reviewed menu 4.23.. But as I can see it, there you can only view the item? It is a bit strange, but probably I am doing it wrong.. Do you, or has anyone else has an idea how this menu works?

To delete an old part number you have to make sure that all required links are cleaned up. For example you cannot delete a part if you still have open S/O's for the part. Your message looks like it is linked to 1.4.20 commodity code maintenance. Try entering the commodity code of 85167100 and then make sure your part is not attached to it. Also as far as 4.23 is concerned you will see that it has three key flags. Posted Only, Delete and Archive. In your case I would suggest that you enter just the part number and then set the flags as Posted Only = NO, Delete = YES, Archive = NO
