A barcode READER is just like a key board. So instead of typing characters you can SCAN barcodes with a barcode reader. That is the starting point for the discussion.
You now have to find someone to make the hardware work. (barcode scanner to replace the keyboard)

As Raymond explained earlier, BarCode data acquisition is just a matter of hardware piece to replace keyboard. But what you will probably be facing is sooner or later a need to simplify entry forms and just keep the minimum required fields.
If you are in character UI mode, you can build very simple telnet sessions (some already exist) or simplify screens using .net features. You can also easily create simple HTML forms and use QXtend webservices to update QAD application.
LAst but not least, you can implement dedicated complementary software such as Eagle RF Express that comes with a collection of specially designed transactions.
